whaaaat>!> yy-yeahhh.... whaaaat!

oh, jovo. i served a large party at work today, with jovana and jen...that was a trial. they were the most miserable bunch of people--who thought that fifty people could cumulatively be in a foul mood? i've heard of collective consciousness, but this is ridiculous.

jovana and i went for dinner at work tonight, before linda's baby shower (i was right! it's a girl!!) and we got into a really neat conversation...the kind of conversation i haven't had since school ended. (oh god, my heart pines for thee, mcmaster) the theme of it was reall represented in my fortune cookie (as jovo puts it, there's no such thing as coincidence): "what is vice today may be virtue tomorrow." awesome. i think we essentially decided we needed to scrap this hegemonic, male-dominated system of capitalism and hierarchy through money and race in favour of an equal system where everyone is exactly the same as the next person...but not so marxist as that came out. it was neat... lots of discussion about the origins of modern christianity and the stonghold it still has on our society even though the majority of the western populus considers itself "non-religious". much of christian doctrine is derived of political need at the time of it's birth-- them crazy romans. how mary magdalene, actually put down in uncensored history as jesus' spouse, was turned into a whore in the bible because 1) she was a woman and 2) jesus was created into a divinity who could not bear children at the church's need. plus, jesus and mary were both of royal blood, so the union of these to figureheads proved worrisome for the already failing roman empire. they had to be out of the political picture.

also, many of the religions of that time were incorporated into christianity's dark side. i.e.: the worship of animals became lucifer's ram's head; the worship of women (think cult of isis, and the various goddesses in roman polytheism) turned into original sin; and the symbol formerly used to represent balance toward men and women, the petagram, is now seen as a symbol of the devil.

so essentially christianity laid a large basis for this male dominated, unbalanced world we live in.

that is, if you can believe the rantings of two uiniversity students....if not, go read a book, and look up the lost scriptures of the old testament. and if ONE more person tells me dinosuars never existed and that god put the bones there to give humans something to do, well, they can go piss up a rope and eat shit. ;)
